“Yes! Yes, Dalton, I will marry you.” Finally.

Chapter Four

Everleigh

“Well young lady if I may say so myself, you are going to be a tremendous asset to the Foundation.” God I hope my smile is reaching my ear and is not as stunted as my mental state right now.

“Thank you Mrs. Goliath. I intend to be useful and help as many as I can.” But first I need to go to your bathroom and puke up the nothing I have eaten and my nerves. If she would freaking stop yapping and let me walk away. In dire straits, I turn to Tracee, my assistant from the foundation and she smirks at me reading my face. Winking at me, letting me know she hears my silent cry, she diverts Mrs. G’s attention elsewhere, giving a few moments to hit the ladies room.

The moment I am behind closed doors, I run to the toilet praying no one comes in, and I give a hallelujah to the toilet. “This baby hates me, I swear. I have only had one piece of plain toast and an herbal tea thanks to my freaking fiancé and his damn ‘What to Expect When You're Expecting book. I swear I am going to incinerate that damn thing.

Once I am done wiping my mouth and rinsing it out with water, I sag against the sink, biting my lip, tears pouring down my face wondering how in the hell I thought we were going to pull this off. “Oh God. What are we going to do?” I cry in the empty room. Hunched over the sink, holding my belly, apologizing to my baby for bringing it into hellfire and brimstone which is what it is going to turn into, I dial D’s number, barely able to speak.

“Everleigh, are you alright?” The concern in his voice makes me even more hysterical. “Jesus Angel, tell me what’s happened. Where are you?”

“I-I don’t know what we are going to do, Dalton.”

“About what?” I can hear the hums quiet which tells me he has gone into his private office.

“All of this. You are going to be impeached, or at best not re-elected. My father is going to kill you either way and then I am going to be raising this baby as a single mom with a convicted killer father. I mean I can see the Lifetime movie now, “The Affair that destroyed America. I mean can you imagine being single handedly responsible for bringing down democracy?” I have no idea what is spilling from my lips but to my panicked brain it sounds logical. This certainly will be worse than that blue dress incident.

“Angel, calm down.” Is he serious?

“Calm down? I am an eighteen-year-old unwed mother, who is going to be homeless and with no family.” A chuckle slides from between his sexy lips and it flips a switch making me pissed off. “Are you laughing at me, POTUS?” He growls immediately hating when I call him that because it means I am upset and he says me being upset is tantamount to Olympus Falling.

“Everleigh, I need you to take a few deep breaths. You are upsetting the baby.” Damn it. He knows the fastest way to get to me is tell me it is not good for the baby. Well played Mr. President. “Are you calm now, angel?” Taking one more deep breath I nod my head.

“Yes. I think so.”

“Good. Now, Do you trust me?”

“Of course I do, D.” With everything in me.

“Then come home, right now. I promise it will all be alright. I love you.” And I’m back.

“I love you too.” Hanging up, I smoothen out my dress and walk out of the bathroom with my head held high.

The drive home is calmer. That man has a way of calming me like no other. I love that his residence is behind everything else because I can come and go without being seen. It is connected to the rest of the building, but there is a separate entrance. The only downside to that is his security. There are only two, but they are two people who know about us.

Walking in, immediately I know something is weird. “Dalton?” I call his name, walking through the rooms. “D?” I walk into the bedroom to find it empty as well, but there is a white dress on the bed with a note.

Angel,

Put this on and meet me in the garden archway. Remember you trust me.

I love you.

Dalton.

With shaky hands and excitement coursing through my body, I lift the beautiful silk and lace sheath dress up to my body in the mirror and I can do nothing but gasp. “It’s beautiful.” I say to myself and admire how perfectly it fits who I am.

Nerves burning through me, causing each movement to be slightly jittery, I go into the bathroom and brush my hair out. Remembering the white rose hair pin my mother gave me to match my graduation dress, I pull it from my keepsake box. Sweeping my hair to one side once it is shiny and soft, I use the hairpin to keep it in place giving the look a subtle elegance.
