Mira giggles.

“Oh my god, you totally just burned him. He definitely did not see that coming,” my friend says, amusement lighting up her dark brown eyes.

I smile, my eyes going faraway for a moment.

“Well, I didn’t actually pick up the bill. My second date of the night took care of it for me.”

Mira’s jaw drops open.

“Date number two? Where did this guy come from?!”

I smile at the memory.

“I don’t know. He was just at the Matterhorn, and I guess he probably saw what happened. He came over, we ordered some wine together, and then got to talking. It was an amazing night, Mira.”

My friend nods but her eyes are crafty.

“Yeah, but you did more than just drink and talk. Come on, Megs. I know you. You wouldn’t be glowing if it was just talking.”

I smile mysteriously.

“You’re never going to believe this, Mira, but we made love in Central Park last night!”

She gasps, her eyes going wide.

“Are you shitting me? Where is this wild side of you coming from? Do you know how dangerous that is to go to Central Park at night with a strange man? And then to take your clothes off and let him have his way with you? Oh my god!”

But I merely shake my head, smiling a secret smile.

“Actually, I think I had my way with him,” I murmur with a wink.

Mira literally pulls at her hair with disbelief now.

“Holy fuck! Girlfriend, I am blown away! But I totally support this wild side you are embracing. You deserve to be a little crazy and have some fun. So, when is date number two? What’s his name? Oh my god, I can’t believe you guys did it in the grass. Did anyone see?”

I giggle a little.

“No, I don’t think so. It was dark, and I think we were behind some trees. But honestly, I don’t know that there will be a date number two. I would love to see my mystery man again, but we were pretty tipsy and forgot to exchange phone numbers.”

Mira’s brow lowers with confusion.

“Did you try googling him?”

“Why do you think I slammed my laptop shut?” I say, laughing. “His name is John Miller, which is too common of a name. I guess I’ll have to wait for fate to bring us together again. He did pack me off in an Uber last night though, so if he really wanted to see me again, he knows where to find me.”

My pretty friend thinks for a moment.

“Yeah, but that’s a little forward. I don’t know how many guys would be comfortable just showing up at a girl’s doorstep unannounced. It’s a pretty ballsy move.”

I smile again.

“But I think he’s a pretty ballsy man. I mean, look what we did together. Anyways, I guess time will tell. Right?”

Suddenly, Joanna approaches my desk with a huge, cheesy grin spread across her face. Her pink head bobs up and down with excitement, and she’s carrying a vase with yellow and pink flowers inside. In her other hand, she has small envelope.

“These are for you, Megan. My my my, you must have a secret admirer!”

My heart begins to beat faster. Could it be him?

“But who dropped them off?”

Joanna shrugs.

“They were on a table in one of the conference rooms. Upper management is catering in lunch today, and asked me to set up the tables. Someone must have gotten in before we opened and then left them behind. The card says they are for you, though. See? Megan Flowers, in large block print.”

The only person who could have pulled that off is Brian.

My heart sinks and I feel a tinge of disappointment at this thought, but I force a smile and take the vase.

Mira perks up again. “So, what is the grub of choice today?”

Joanna laughs.

“Veal scallopini, eggplant parm and mostaccioli. Fancy, right? Upper management’s catering it in from a high-end place down in the heart of the city. I wonder what we did to deserve this.”

“Don’t ask questions. Just smile, nod, and take the free food,” Mira jokes. All three of us laugh and then Joanna heads back to her spot up front at reception.

“So who are the flowers from?” Mira asks, a big smile on her face. I look up at her, stunned.

“It’s from John and the card says “Central Park, Sunday 2 o’clock, same spot. Love, J.M.”

“Did you tell him where you work?” Mira asks.

“No, at least I didn’t think so. But maybe I did. I don’t know, I guess I was drinking a lot. Maybe I mentioned Metro Media in passing.”

She giggles.

“He must have been listening pretty intently to remember a small detail like that. Or maybe he google searched you, girlfriend.”

I ponder it all for a moment. How did he know where I worked? Did I tell him when I was ranting about Brian? Suddenly, my expression becomes serious.
