“I know. She used to tell me all about it.”

He kissed the top of Camila’s head. “My boy is a shit, Harley. You know that more than anyone else.”

“Yeah.”

“Have you seen him by any chance?”

“I haven’t.”

I wanted them to enjoy the rest of their night. This wasn’t about me. It was their wedding, and I didn’t want them to remember the whiny girl who took up their time.

“Okay, I’ll leave you two alone. Congratulations again.”

They smiled, embracin’ one another before I turned and left. Goin’ to find the boy who confused me the most.

Grabbin’ my purse from the back of my chair, I went around lookin’ for him.

“Have you seen Jackson?” I asked Jagger, who was standin’ by Cash.

He shook his head no.

“Last time I saw him he was goin’ down to the beach,” Cash answered, noddin’ behind me toward the direction I just came from. “Why you lookin’ for him?”

“No reason.”

“Cash, you dance wif me!” Journey intervened, grabbin’ his hands.

“I danced with you five times already.”

“Again,” she giggled, lookin’ up at him like he was her everythin’. Makin’ all of us laugh.

“Okay. Let’s go dance.”

She beamed as he led her toward the dance floor. Once they were there, he twirled her around, and then placed her on his shoes.

I watched them dance, while I talked to Jagger for a bit. Only thinkin’ about Jackson Pierce. We laughed our asses off when Shiloh threw a drink in Trigger’s face.

“What’s that about?”

“Who knows with them. I’m gonna go look for your brother.”

“Good luck.”

Ten minutes later and still no sign of him. I decided to go toward the pier instead, knowin’ it was one of his favorite spots. Takin’ off my heels, I made my way in that direction.

What would I say to him when I found him?

Should I tell him what Camila and I talked about?

Would he be receptive?

Push me away?

Be mean to me?

Should I give him what I always carried with me in my purse?

The list of questions was never ending.

I rounded the corner, seein’ him up ahead.

There he is!

Rushin’ toward him, I was about to call out his name, when I abruptly stopped dead in my tracks. All the blood drained from my face, and my stomach dropped to the sand.

My heart.

My mind.

My love...

Was broken.

Snappin’ like a wrought iron chain. He was pullin’ every sentiment from my body, every last emotion I didn’t even know I had for him.

I strained, lockin’ up, stayin’ firmly rooted to the place I stood with the wind knocked out of me. Feelin’ as though he’d just punched me in the stomach.

Instantly, wantin’ to throw up.

I gasped for my next breath at the exact second, he peered up, mid thrust. Connectin’ eyes with me while he fucked Willow under the pier on the beach.

“Fuck...” he rasped, realizin’ I caught him with her.

Our eyes never wavered from one another, as I realized what I’d truly interrupted.

I winced at the sound of his voice, and for a moment, my pain broke through the uncontrollable emotions.

“Jackson, what the hell?” Willow accused as he stood, tuckin’ himself back into his pants.

“You fuckin’ liar!” I seethed, feelin’ fury and agony like I’d never felt in my life. Before he could humiliate me further, I took off runnin’.

“Harley!” he shouted, chasin’ after me.

Only addin’ gasoline to my furious, out of control, fiery blaze.

My feet pounded against the sand, kickin’ up dirt. I’d never run so fast in my entire life. I didn’t want to talk to him, see him, answer to him.

He deserved none of it.

“Harley, stop running!”

His request only had me sprintin’ faster. I should have known better, there was no way I’d be able to outrun him. He did this every day of his life for football.

In two seconds flat, I felt his hand firmly grasp my arm. Tearin’ me back to face him.

“You fuckin’ liar!” I yelled, tryin’ to knee him in the balls to get away from him, but with no luck.

He blocked me.

“For fuck’s sake, relax!” he ordered, assaultin’ me with his whiskey breath.

They were drinkin’?

“You disgust me! I can’t believe you! Just two hours ago, you were tellin’ me you were a virgin and wanted to save it for someone special!”

“I didn’t say that.”

“Yes, you did!”

“Harley, don’t put words in my mouth. I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Fine! Then let me go!”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

“You didn’t hurt me!” I lied, not wantin’ him to think I gave a shit about him or the pain he caused me. “I fuckin’ hate you!”

“It’s not what you think.”

“Really? Cuz it sure as shit looked like you were fuckin’ her!”

“I was.”

“Ugh! Let go of me!”

“It was just a fuck! What’s your problem?”

“Fuck you!”

“What? You gonna go find Cash now, baby girl?”

“Leave him out of this! This has nothin’ to do with him!”

“That’s where you’re wrong.”

I ripped my arms out of his strong grip, speakin’ with conviction. “I fuckin’ hate you. I believed you. I wanted to believe you. I thought...” I shook my head, holdin’ back the tears. “I mean... I just thought... you were talkin’ about me in there...”
