“Fucking Joey,” my president mocked as he came over to the table, “wanted to congratulate you for finally being in your thirties like my dear little sister.”

I shot him a deadpan look. Yeah, I knew his little sister was older than me, but that had never mattered to me. Nor did it matter to Jessie.

We were happy together. At the end of the day, that was the most important thing.

Pretty soon, the clubhouse was alive with laughter, loud music, and lots of drinks. Joey, River, Sam, Alejandro, and I all stayed sitting at the table, but occasionally, Whiler got up to go dance with some woman.

I’d be glad to see that fucker settle down one day. He was so fucking wild. Before I’d left all that time ago to go work for Alejandro, he’d been the type to date. I didn’t know what happened, but when I’d come back, he’d been wanting nothing more than one-night-stands.

“Don’t you think it’s still too early for a party?” I asked Joey, already over this shit. Everyone was still wishing me a fucking happy birthday. Not to mention, I was pretty sure one of the girls was already drunk, and it wasn’t even seven yet.

“Nope,” Joey said, popping the p.

The clubhouse doors opened at that moment, and Jessie stepped inside with Elaina who was holding Antonio on her hip. Alejandro got up to greet her, pressing a kiss to her lips before grabbing Antonio from her. Jessie walked directly to me, a wide smile on her face.

I grinned back at her and stood up, wrapping her in my arms once she reached me. I molded our lips together, kissing her slow and deep. She moaned into our kiss, her hands gripping my cut.

“I ought to spank your ass for leaving me here by myself,” I rumbled against her lips.

She just laughed and handed me the gift bag in her hands. With a sigh, since I told her I didn’t want anything for my birthday but her, I set it on the table and proceeded to lift all the tissue paper out.

Inside was a big, black box. Frowning in confusion, I grabbed it and lifted the lid. My heart was in my throat as I pulled out the knitted, black beanie with the club emblem stitched into the pattern in white. A pregnancy test was next, showing a smiley face with the word pregnant.

I was biting back tears. The fact that she had done all of this meant she truly was getting better. She wanted this with me.

I lifted out the letter from the doctor next, confirming her pregnancy. She was currently nine weeks along. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I lifted out her ultrasound pictures next.

Our little baby stared back at me. It wasn’t quite the shape of a baby yet—still had a bit of forming to do, but it was ours. It was something we’d created together that would forever symbolize how much I fucking loved her.

I turned to face her. With shaking hands, I grasped her face in my hands and lifted her mouth to mine, kissing her soft and slow. Then, I dropped to my knees, lifted her shirt, and pressed my lips to her belly.

She sobbed, her fingers digging into my hair. Cheers rang out around us, so many people congratulating us. It was almost a deafening roar.

But when she said, “I love you, Ink,” her voice was the only one I heard.

This may be our next battle, but I knew with the proper love and care, Jessie would get through this. And I’d never let her go. I’d continue fighting for her every fucking second of the day.

Because without her, my heart ceased to beat.
