Not that I care.

Besides, I only offered it there to save my life, to stop him from bringing me to this very place, and it failed. There’s no reason to let him do this. No reason at all, but …

Suddenly, he leans in, his lips grazing my skin right below my ear. And everything I was thinking flies straight out the window.

It’s wrong, so wrong, yet I can’t even put up a fight as his lips drag a line down my neck. The rumbling groan that follows sets my body on fire.

I don’t understand. He made himself very clear back in that hotel room. So then why do I get the sense he’s been holding back since then?

Is it because he needed to bring me in first? Have his owner gift me to him like some pet?

Or was it something else?

“Are you scared of me?” he asks.

I don’t know how to respond.

Because I definitely, very much, should be terrified.

“You’re a murderer,” I murmur, trying so hard not to be affected by the way his lips plant succulent kisses all over my skin. “Of course I’m scared.”

“I won’t hurt you.” His voice is dark, heady like he’s on the verge of severing whatever restraint he put on himself. And with every kiss he plants, it’s becoming harder and harder to breathe.

He kisses my jaw in such a soft manner that it completely throws me off balance. Who knew a beast like him could be so gentle?

One moment, he’s destroying the cage along with the meat thrown to him like he’s some kind of animal, and the next, he wants to shower me in kisses. It’s too confusing, too … maddening.

I must stop this before it’s too late.

I instinctively plant a hand on his buff chest and push. My strength pales in comparison and does nothing except alert him. He leans back, his gaze penetrative as he places his hand on top of mine, guiding my hand down, down, down …

Until it reaches the point of no return.

I suck in another breath at the feel of his thick bulge underneath the palm of my hand. The groan that follows from deep within his throat makes me whimper out loud.

He’s huge.

And hard.

Definitely as hard as a rock.

Because of me?

I gasp, partly from the shock and partly because it’s exciting me in a way that should be forbidden.

I quickly remove my hand, jarred by my reaction to his body.

He’s so close, I can practically taste the meat he just devoured, the scent animalistic and almost an aphrodisiac to my nostrils. Not at all what I expected. Just like this man.

And something tells me he won’t go easy on me … or slow.

I gulp.

I should definitely not be thinking about that.

Definitely.

But the thought did cross my mind on several occasions.

I failed when I tried to seduce him. But what if I could try again? Would it be worth it to try to save my own life?

We’re both stuck in this cell, and he shows no inclination of wanting to escape.

He may be just as evil as the men who put me here.

But do I even have a choice with him hovering so close to me?

And why does it feel like he already staked his claim?

Suddenly, the door at the top of the stairs opens again, and that same guard from before comes rushing down.

I quickly push myself as far away into a corner as I can, despite the fact that Beast is still right in front of me, sporting an obvious boner.

Of course Raymond’s eyes immediately home in on it.

“Well, look at that. Does the lil doggy have a crush?” Raymond laughs, making obscene gestures that look like he’s fucking the air.

I scowl at him. “No one asked you for your opinion. Or your dumb dance.”

“Shut up, little girl,” he growls, immediately stopping.

He fishes his key from his pocket and shoves it into the cell door, but before he turns it, he glares at the beastly man. “You. Behave. Or you’ll get the collar again.”

So I was right. It was a collar.

But why would they give him one?

And why does it sound like a threat?

The gate opens, and the guard eyes down Beast who only has eyes for me.

“Beast, come,” Raymond commands.

Beast reluctantly removes his eyes off my body, grinding his teeth as though the mere interruption makes him want to throw hands.

He steps away, and it finally feels like I can breathe again. He follows Raymond out of the cell willingly, and Raymond shuts the door again, sealing me inside.

I can’t help but grasp the bars and stare as they both walk upstairs while Raymond clenches his gun tightly.

But when the door closes and I’m left by myself, I realize there is something I’m far more scared of than anything that lumbering giant could ever do.
