“The—um. You know about the baby?” she whispered.

I took her elbow and escorted her over to the exam table, responding in the same low tone, except mine was also smug. “I told you I knocked you up that night, nena.”

“Okay, lovebirds,” Dr. Frazier interrupted. “I’m going to do an exam, then you can go somewhere else to continue...whatever. I don’t want to know.”

I helped Allison onto the table then moved to stand beside her, keeping one of her hands clasped in both of mine.

Dr. Frazier grabbed something out of a cabinet and brought it over to give Allison. “I’d lecture you about safe sex, but obviously, it would be too late.” Allison blushed harder, and her eyes dropped to the ground. I was furious that anyone would make her feel bad about the time we’d spent together and the incredible things we’d done to each other.

“I’m teasing, Allison,” Dr. Frazier assured her with a soft smile. “If I were engaged to that”—she jerked her thumb in my direction—“I’d be pregnant too. Probably without even having sex.”

Allison giggled, then she shook her head. “Oh, we aren’t—”

“Maybe we’ll try it that way for the next one,” I interjected to keep her from saying anything about not being engaged.

She peeked up at me through her lashes, her mouth curved in a small frown and her eyes swirling with confusion. It wasn’t the time to talk about it, so I lifted her hand and kissed the back.

“Everything off from the waist down and put this on,” the doctor instructed my girl and gestured to the paper gown she’d handed her. Then she pointed at me. “No helping. I’ve been around that block with her parents and aunts and uncles way too many times.”

I grinned roguishly. “No promises.”

“Then you can go wait in the front.”

My smile dropped, and I felt properly chastised, prompting me to respond with another, “Yes, ma’am.”

Allison giggled again as the doctor left and shut the door behind her.

“Something amusing you, nena?”

“The way you were pouting was pretty funny,” she said with another giggle, trying to hide a smile, but the dimples gave it away.

I gasped dramatically. “I did not pout.”

She smiled in lieu of a reply and jumped off the table.

“Careful, nena,” I chided. “You’re pregnant.”

She rolled her eyes and sauntered over behind a curtain to change. “I’m not a porcelain doll that’s going to break, Diego.”

I sat in my chair again to wait for her and glared, even though I knew she couldn’t see it. “You’ve got the perfect body for having my babies, Allison. But you are still small, and as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I’m a rather large man,” I grumbled.

She’d come around the corner as I finished, and I didn’t miss the way her eyes immediately strayed to my dick—who twitched happily at having her attention. Her cheeks sprinkled with pink, and she bit her lip as she hurried over to the exam table.

I jumped to my feet and grasped her tiny waist to lift her onto it. Then I rubbed my thumb over her top lip before using it to release the bottom one. “What have I told you about this lip, nena?” I asked huskily. I didn’t wait for an answer before lowering my head and nibbling her lip before sucking it into my mouth. Allison moaned, and I pressed her back, guiding her down onto the table.

“For the love of—do you people have any boundaries?” Dr. Frazier ranted. “Does this look like a hotel?”

I chuckled as I raised Allison back up and put a tiny kiss on her mouth before straightening. “There’s a bed,” I pointed out. For which I received a withering stare and a huff. She really knew how to make someone squirm. I dutifully returned to my seat while she set everything up.

Five minutes later, I sat in stunned silence as I listened to the rapid beat of our baby’s heart. Dr. Frazier pointed at a tiny dot, and if I hadn’t seen a boatload of ultrasound pictures from my siblings, I might not have believed her. “That is one good-looking black spot,” I teased as I gently squeezed Allison’s hand, which I’d kept tightly in mine. I was a little afraid to let her go.

She laughed and nodded, her beautiful eyes still glued to the screen. A tear leaked from the corner of her eye and trickled down her cheek where I caught it with my finger.

I was almost certain of the answer, but just in case, I asked anyway. “Are you happy?”

She laughed and sniffed as more tears trailed down her face. “This isn’t how I’d pictured it, but it’s still a dream come true.” Then she turned her head and tilted it back to look up at me. “I’m really glad you were here.”

Dr. Frazier snorted. “I should hope so. You’re doing all the work, so the least your fiancé can do is hold your hand through it all.”
