“You’re smiling,” she said through her own smile.

He leaned down and kissed her on the head. “I’m happy. You make me that way, baby. You make me deliriously happy.” He lifted her easily into his arms and carried her into their bedroom. The sound of the baby crying came through the walls, and he set Shoshanna on the bed. “Let me go get him.”

He kissed her on the forehead, turned to grab a pair of sweats, and headed out of the bedroom. Toby went into his son’s room, leaned over the crib, and saw Ronan squirming on the mattress, and picked up his little guy. He cradled Ronan to his chest, rubbed his tiny back, and his son gave out a mighty cry of hunger.

“Shh, it’s okay, little man. I’ll take you to see Mommy.” Toby went into the bedroom again, saw Shoshanna holding her hands out for Ronan, and Toby gave her their son. For the next twenty minutes he watched the mother of his child, soon to be his wife, feed their baby. When she was finished Toby grabbed Ronan, held the little bundle to his chest, and lay down on the bed beside Shoshanna.

They weren’t married yet, but he wanted Shoshanna as his legally. He wanted that piece of paper to bind them, to make it official, because he had no plans on ever leaving Shoshanna’s side. But she’d wanted to wait, and it had to be her decision when they made it official. He could wait. Fuck, he’d wait forever to be with her.

Ronan started making little sucking noises, and Toby knew he’d be asleep soon. He held his son to his naked chest, his body heat keeping the baby warm, and used his other hand to pull Shoshanna closer. She placed her hand lightly on Ronan’s back, leaned up and kissed Toby on the mouth, and settled against his chest.

“I love you, Toby Mason,” she said softly.

“I love you, baby. God, I love you so much and the life we’ve created.” He inhaled deeply, smelled the shampoo in her hair, and the faint baby lotion that was on Ronan, and smiled. “There is only one thing missing, Shoshanna.”

She leaned back and stared at him.

“I want you as my wife.”

Her smile took his breath away, stole his heartbeat, and had this tightening in his gut. “I want to be Mrs. Mason, and I don’t want to wait anymore.”

And that was all he needed to hear. “If I died right now I’d be the happiest man on the planet.” He pulled his woman close, kept his child right on his chest, and closed his eyes, never feeling this kind of love before. He’d be a better father than his old man had been. He would never lay a hand on his family, never desert them, and would always work as hard as he could to provide for them. They were his world now, and damn was it a good life.
